Day 12: Denver, CO

We woke up after a great night’s sleep in our very comfortable Homewood Suites bed and went down to catch the last few minutes of an impressive complimentary breakfast.

We returned to our room to take care of a few things and take it easy after many days on the road. We walked outside to explore for lunch and ended up at Modern Market, a restaurant Abe had experienced previously in Austin. Abe ordered a hand-carved plate with sustainable salmon seasoned with lemon and chimichurri with squash and zuccini and heirloom rice, and Arielle opted for a creative option: the Blueberry Pesto sandwich, complete with fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, blueberry balsamic jam, and tomato on ciabatta.

Before our evening plans, we headed down to the 24-hour fitness center for a hearty workout. Fifteen minutes on the treadmill felt even more strenuous because of the actual elevation of where we were, not just the incline on the machine. We cooled off with some laps in the pool and then went upstairs to get ready for the first wedding-related event. We took the free 16th Street Mall Ride bus with Erik and Arielle, two wedding guests we had met at the aufruf back in June in Brooklyn who happened to be staying in our hotel and whom we had run into on our way down to the workout. The vegetarian Shabbat dinner was hosted at WeWork Union Station, a cool space. We ran into a number of people we knew from NYU, from the aufruf, and from some other facets of our lives. It was a lovely experience, and we capped it off with a visit to the nearby Milkbox Ice Creamery in Union Station, where Abe and the other Arielle got the Salted Oreo, Arielle got the creamsicle, and Erik got the vanilla bean. We walked about twenty-five minutes back to our hotel to settle in for the night and prepare for a day with more pictures than just of food.
