Day 2.54: Durham, NC

We woke up to go meet Ethan, a former USY colleague of Abe’s who is now the assistant director of Duke Hillel, at Parker and Otis, a cool spot in downtown Durham. Arielle and I both got avocado toast, and Arielle asked for extra bread because they piled the avocado on so high (it was pretty good). Ethan’s bagel with lox also looked appetizing.

Our next stop was in Chapel Hill at Trader Joe’s so that we could buy kosher chicken to make for dinner, and we made quick stops at Harris Teeter and Whole Foods for additional ingredients like Bone Suckin’ Sauce and Duncan Hines brownie mix to make cookies. We met Ingrid, Arielle’s former two-up manager from J.P. Morgan, at American Tobacco Campus, a neat area back in Durham, for lunch. It was great to catch up and eat outside at Tyler’s Taproom, where Arielle got a pretzel and fried pickles, and Abe got a burger.

After lunch, we drove back to the Greyber home, where we did some work and then started cooking dinner. For Shabbat dinner, we made Bone Suckin’ Chicken, home fries, roasted Brussels sprouts, carrots, broccoli, fruit salad, and brownie cookies, which we enjoyed with Rabbi Dan and Ranon.

We talked for a bit about life in North Carolina and the importance of basketball before heading to bed.

Approximate number of miles covered: 19
