Day 2.13: South Florida Day 4

On this day we definitely slept in – apparently it was a Saturday and being around other people means we try to know what day of the week it is. We started an otherwise relaxing day with thirty minutes on the treadmill, which felt especially awful probably because of the humidity, but at least we had a nice view of the pool during the workout. We showered and went to join our friends at the pool, which ended up being very crowded with multiple groups of people. We spent a good chunk of the day there, and Abe was in the pool for at least two hours straight, getting plenty of sun while he was talking to a few new people about movies for a long time. Shosh and Eric arrived to say hello, and it was a good chance to catch up with people we hadn’t seen in a while, either from when we lived in New York or before that. Pictured below are Abe with Mike, Brandon, and Steven, Arielle with Shayna and Daniel, and us with the happy couple!

We got ready to go out and drove some friends in our car to the rehearsal dinner at the Historic Stranahan House in Fort Lauderdale, which was actually very close to where we were staying in Hollywood most of the week. The mostly-outdoor venue was beautiful, and we were particularly excited to reconnect with our friend Jill, who Abe knew from USY and Koach, and who is getting married in March! Her fiancé Eric, a North Dakota native, is great too, and we enjoyed meeting him. We also got to see Loen, who works as the youth director at Abe's parents' synagogue in Mount Kisco, New York. The highlight of the rehearsal dinner was the featuring of most of the bridal party members (including Mollie, pictured below) as speakers, with each toast providing great insight into their relationships to the bride and groom, even for those who had never met them.

We got a recommendation from local Jill on where to go for ice cream – Hoffman’s Chocolates – and encountered many of the rehearsal dinner attendees there. After sampling a number of flavors, we decided to split a triple scoop, with the purple cow for Arielle, cookies and cream for Abe, and mint chip for us to share. We walked back to our car, drove back to the hotel, and passed out after a great day.
